Forged and polished steel
A long run of arched steel ribs along the Manitowoc riverfront, each one bent by hand and set at a different height so the line rises and falls like wind moving over water. The polished surfaces catch the light the way sun catches the lake behind them. It is the largest public work to leave the shop, and the one people stop for at night.
Cedar posts, steel bar and chain, weathered metal planter
A simple frame of cedar posts and a steel bar holds a planter off the ground, suspended by chain so it can sway slightly in the breeze. Built to sit in a garden bed without crowding the plants around it.
Hot-forged mild steel
Two roses off one stem, cut and hammered petal by petal, leaves veined with a chisel. Left bare so the hammer marks and heat color stay visible. This is what a rose looks like before it gets its paint.
Forged steel, automotive enamel
The same rose finished the way it goes onto a gate: high-gloss red over black. Petals thin enough to catch a highlight, heavy enough to sit outside for decades.
Salvaged steel, brass, copper, scrap hardware, found wood
Mushroom caps from tank ends, sunflower centers from perforated plate, petals from cut sheet, and a caterpillar in the middle of it holding court. Almost nothing in it was bought new.
Steel sheet, rod, wire mesh, glass eyes

A small mean thing with big ears, built out of cut and shaped sheet, then given a cage of its own. The cage is part of the piece. It is not there to protect the work.
Steel panel, layered enamel and pigment
A flat panel worked like a canvas. Molten-looking orange dragged across cold blue, built up in ridges thick enough to throw a shadow. The steel underneath does half the work.
Steel panel, patina, oil
Patina let loose on a polished panel and then stopped at the right moment. What came up looks like a treeline in fog. Not drawn, only encouraged.
Wrought iron, enameled steel roses
A two-panel garden gate of hand-forged branches and curling tendrils, with red roses set where the branches split. Black iron against a house wall, built to climb and to be looked at.
Live-edge white oak, welded steel base
Two book-matched oak boards over a steel frame built in the same shop as the sculpture. Checks and knots left in and stabilized rather than filled and hidden.
